In this paper, the authoress deals with the German compound nouns and their equivalents in Danish. As German language, offers – Danish language the possibility of combining of words, especially nouns, too. The German language has many categories of compound nouns. These compounds are made of two immediate constitentes, each consisting of one or more morphemes. The authoress attempts to compare the formation and use of compound nouns in German with Danish. In her opinion, the extralinguistic knowledge and the context also play an important role in the interpretation of compounds and have an influence on whether they are correctly understood. All the examples show that Danish mostly has the exact equivalents for the German compound nouns. The compound is particularly important because it is the most productive form of word formation and leads to the expansion of the vocabulary.
